Today the Sri Lankan workers seemed more comfortable directing us and making their expectations known.

All of the 17 volunteers arrived at Moonstone Villas, our home for the next 12 days, Sunday afternoon. Jet lag aside, Monday morning everyone was up at the crack of dawn for breakfast, a briefing and 7:45 departure to our three worksites. We were all excited to get going.
Volunteering is glorious, hard work, inspiring, challenging and rewarding. You will laugh, you will cry and you will come home knowing you made a difference in someone else’s life.
Following a great week of building where the team took the block walls from the foundation to above the windows, we packed away our dirty work clothes and headed for the Bardia Jungle Resort in Bardia national park. Team members were greeted at the village entrance by Thura women in their traditional dress.

Nutrition and education, particularly during a child’s foundational years is important. A DWC team in Kenya is developing a water collection system to irrigate a garden at an impoverished school.
Brenda’s House Visit: Margarett, Jennifer and I went to a girl’s house that lived by the school and it was a eye opening experience seeing how much she can do with so little. Their house is about the size of a normal hotel suite for one person. They don’t have plumbing and the electricity doesn’t work most of the time. She lives there with her mom and dad but they’re not around to help her because they’re busy working.
Day one in San Miguel Duenas found us hard at work adding the finishing touches to some houses that DWC had started earlier. The floors are now finished ready for the family to move in.
