You’ll work with Rise Above Foundation in Cebu City on Cebu Island, Philippines. This major shipping port is the country’s oldest city and first Spanish settlement. Danish expats Flemming and Elisabet Hansen established Rise Above in Cebu City in 2000 and they’ve been running life-changing programs for education, food, dental health, medical and housing ever since.
About The Trip:
Our teams in Cebu have built homes for families and made improvements to schools (and played with the kids while they were at it) while working with our in-country partner, Rise Above Foundation. They have made an impact in the lives of people struggling just to put food on the table and children who need an education to lead better lives.
You’ll work alongside like-minded volunteers who are also passionate about travel and giving others a hand up, not a hand out.
You’ll leave behind a legacy like the new home one of our teams built for Peregrina, a single mother with seven children. You can see her story on our video page here.

It’s Not All Work:
November in the Philippines is the beginning of the dry season, so expect it to be hot and sunny. Daytime highs usually hit around 32C and evening lows drop down to 24C. That said, this is the tropics, so it’s good to be prepared for some rainfall.
Cebu City offers such sights as the historic church Basilica del Santo Nino, the Taoist Temple with landmark dragons, the Tops Lookout, Fort San Pedro, Magellan’s Cross and the Cebu Heritage Monument.
Take a side trip to Bohol Island for the beaches, diving, resorts, Chocolate Hills and the indigenous, big-eyed Philippine tarsier.

The Project:
Volunteers will be working on construction projects with Rise Above Foundation Cebu. All DWC projects are of great benefit to a part of the population at great risk and struggling just to put food on the table. Opportunities to connect with the local people are numerous and rewarding. You’ll participate in building a future for people who have little. You’ll work alongside like-minded volunteers who are also passionate about travel and giving others a hand up, not a hand out.
