How it Works Six Simple Steps to Get You on Your Way

STEP01

Decide When and Where

Decide where and when you want to go. Then get in touch with us and ask questions. View Our Trip Schedule

STEP02

Fill Out an Application

Fill out an application form and submit your $600 deposit. Once the trip has at least 6 volunteers sign up, the trip is a GO! We will give you the "green light" and then you can start preparing. Consider inviting others to join with you!

STEP03

Finance Your Trip

If you want to give family and friends an opportunity to help you get there, start fundraising as soon as possible. Please let us know immediately if you are considering fundraising for all or part of your trip. We have resources to help you!

Trip donation payments:

  1. $600 non-refundable deposit upon application (credited towards trip cost)
  2. Flight costs (amount varies). Due within 10 days, if booked through Key Travel.
  3. Final Trip Cost – remaining trip cost balance. Usually due by 45 days prior to departure.

STEP04

Prepare for International Travel

Book your flights. Get any vaccinations or medications as required. Also send out your visa application, make sure your passport is current, get medical and travel insurance, and pay in full for your trip. You are going!

Doctor/Travel Clinic visit – please check with your doctor about any medical concerns at least 3 months before travel. Get your vaccinations done early and get extra supply of medications as needed.

Flights – we have a partner, Key Travel which, if you book your flights through them, your DWC flight portion costs are eligible as a charitable donation and therefore, tax receiptable.

Visa – you are responsible to check visa requirements for the country you are going to. Your team leader will sometimes provide information to help you, however, there can be factors which require your individual attention.

Current passport – Your passport must be valid for 6 months AFTER your trip return date. Check your passport expiry date as soon as you decide to go on a trip.

Insurance – Travel Medical Insurance is mandatory. We will be asking for a completed Health Form when you apply. Travel insurance is optional but highly recommended.

STEP05

Meet Your Team Leader

You'lll be connected with your volunteer team leader who will help answer questions all along the way; pre-trip and on the ground. He/she has travelled with DWC before, gone through DWC training and will be an invaluable resource to you. We LOVE our team leaders and you will too!

STEP06

Learn Before You Go

Have fun researching where you are going in the time leading up to your trip. It will build anticipation and help you get the most out of your experience. We will provide orientation materials and webinar orientation prior to departure with specifics about your trip and project as well.

Check your packing list and make sure you've got everything you'll need.

STEP07

Book Additional Travel

Many of our volunteers grab the opportunity to explore the world some more since they are already there. If you plan on doing some extra tours of spending additional time travelling before or after the DWC trip, make sure everything is in place. Your team leader will also be coordinating some optional activities.

STEP08

Hop on the Plane!

This is a new and unforgettable experience. Take lots of photos, write blog posts, keep a journal, and make new friends and memories.
